Daniel had been looking for years for a light that suited his off-road motorbike. He needed three things: a compact unit, genuine road compliance and enough output to see properly on the track and trail. His first attempt didn’t work out. He ordered a headlight from another brand and when it arrived he found it wasn’t roadworthy. The lights didn’t carry the E3 stamp on the front, which he needed for a compliant high/low beam and for the off-road racing he competes in. After another few months of searching, he came across one of our Facebook.

Daniel ordered an individual Wattz CR-3010 headlight for his KTM 250. It was small enough to suit the bike, carried the compliance marking he needed and delivered the lumens he was after.

Daniel chose to build his own mount, so the light sat exactly where he wanted it on the bike. He cut the bracket from aluminium and fixed it with the screws supplied with the light. For the wiring, he fitted a 4-pin Deutsch plug, which gives a secure, weather-resistant connection that holds up to vibration. Because he rides hard over rough ground, he added one more layer of protection. He used silicone to seal the flat aluminium plate into the setup to shield the light from knocks.

On the bike, the light gives Daniel a widespread short distance beam and strong long-distance beam for down the track. He can see the ground in front of him and what’s coming well ahead and he can race knowing his setup is compliant.

“The spread is great, and the distance is even better. I’m stoked with it.”
